SYMBYOZE was founded in Dakar at the end
of March 2005
SYMBYOZE believes that by cooperating with
each other and inviting others to participate in the development
of our work, everybody benefits.
We therefore choose to work in ‘symbiosis’ with
other artisans and with our clients. This cultural and artistic
blend or fusion allows us to express our creativity fully
and produce unique designs.
Our aim is to share our passion for resist-dyeing with others,
to welcome new ideas, and to collaborate with others to sustain
this tradition and move it forward. We invite our clients
to choose their own patterns, designs and colours from our
collection of over 80 carved wooden stamps from Senegal, Mali,
The Gambia and Ivory Coast, from our specialty books, prototypes
and photos. Then we move on to the production phase.
We personalize our work by giving our clients the opportunity
name their favourite wooden stamps or designs. Indeed, often
our most-appreciated products are ones our clients inspired,
either by their choice of stamp, the layout of the stamps,
or the colour combinations. We know that we have reached our
goal when a client adores a personalized bed-cover s/he created,
for example, and looks at it with pride.
We are convinced that SYMBYOZE is a key factor
in the evolution of African textile art.
